We are getting ready for another great summer camp season The Salvation Army. Here’s a story and some photos from a 2009 event with the day campers at The Salvation Army Peachcrest Club.

As part of a weeklong Atlanta Mission Project, members of Atlanta’s Church of Apostles’ Student To Student (STS) outreach ministry program hosted 2 days of Field Day Fun activities for disadvantaged youth at The Salvation Army’s Bellwood and Peachcrest Boys and Girls Clubs.
On July 14th and 15th, 30 STS members led the Clubs’ more than 100 youth members in outdoor activities ranging from potato sack races to water balloon tosses.
“There are about 400 kids in Church of Apostles Student To Student missions program,” explains Carlyn Defnell, Middle School Youth Leader at Church of the Apostles. “Our kids regularly make missions trips throughout the world and the country, but this is an opportunity to reach out to children and families in our very own backyards.”
Defnell says the Church group brought with them all the water balloons, potato sacks, water hoses, water guns, small pools and other resources at its disposal to ensure the kids had loads of fun. “We have been doing these type of field day activities at our church for years and the kids really have a great time. We are not looking for an opportunity to preach to the children, we are just here for fun and games.”
