On Nov. 9, 2010, approximately 1000 USDA Grade A turkeys were donated to The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Atlanta-Fuqua Unit thanks to the National Ball Players Association’s (NBPA) Annual Great Turkey Giveaway.
The NBPA and its players kicked off their nationwide holiday feast relief in Atlanta to ensure that thousands of local men, women and children have Thanksgiving meals.
Atlanta Hawks Maurice Evans was on-hand to hand-off the turkeys to each of the recipients. “It’s very important for me to give back to those that have given so much,” explains Evans.
According to Andre London, Unit Director of The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Atlanta-Fuqua Unit, “With Thanksgiving vastly approaching and families continuing to struggle in this difficult economy, many parents expressed how they can now have thanksgiving since they have turkeys.” As an added bonus, Evans shook hands and took photos with the dozens of happy parents and children. “I was really proud to be the Unit Director that day. “It was great to see so many smiling and grateful faces.”
