During our annual competition event on March 17, The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Atlanta named 15 year old Christopher Clark our Youth of The Year for 2011!  Chris will go on to compete in a statewide Youth of The Year competition on Friday, March 25.

The oral speech competition was the last part of a process in which Chris was nominated, submitted a written application and essay, and was interviewed by a panel of judges on character, poise, and other skills befitting a Youth of The Year.

Clark, a 9th grader at Columbia High School in Decatur, was one of four super-youth from The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Atlanta to compete for the title.

As the local Youth of the Year, Clark received a plaque, a $1000 college scholarship from Tupperware Brands Corporation, and an opportunity to compete in a statewide Boys & Girls Clubs competition for the Georgia Youth of the Year title on March 25.

“Chris has been a member of The Salvation Army Peachcrest Boys and Girls Club since 2008,” explains Gloria Reid, The Peachcrest Club Unit Director. “Christopher demonstrates strong leadership skills, is very active in the Club and the community, and is a very well-rounded and mature young man.”

Chris is also a member of the Temple of Faith Christian Church.  Upon completing high school he hopes to attend Georgia State or University of Georgia to major in Child Care.

We are truly excited for you Chris.  We’ll be rooting for you at the State Competition.  Good Luck!
