Over the past 10 years, Atlanta’s population has exploded in the Army’s metro Atlanta service areas, and we are experiencing the downside of this incredible growth. However, despite spectacular population increase in the Atlanta metropolitan area, poverty rates remain high and job opportunities remain low for many individuals.
The Salvation Army has been serving the metro Atlanta community since October 1881, with the help of friends and supporters like you. Unfortunately, the funding to respond to the increase in request for assistance has not kept pace with the increase in demand for our services. In fact, this year alone we’ve seen 20,814 first-time recipients of Salvation Army services.
In response to our need for funding, Friends of The Salvation Army have offered us a challenge that will maximize our donors’ gifts for support.
If we are able to secure the matching funds by September 30, 2011, we will receive a grant of $750,000 towards our metro Atlanta programs and services.
Please consider making a contribution of any size today. Click here to make an online donation or mail your donation c/o Friends of The Army to The Salvation Army, PO Box 49247, Atlanta, GA 30359.
Your donation will help us provide emergency food, shelter, housing, and vital programs for hurting men, women and children in the metro Atlanta community. It will also help the thousands of local individuals and families who are in danger of losing their homes, utilities, and hope as a result of the recent economic downturn.
