A recent study shows that more than 1 in 5 kids live in poverty in the United States. These impoverished families are often struggling to meet the basic needs of food, clothing and shelter, and have little to no money to explore the many arts and cultural enrichment programs Metro Atlanta has to provide.
The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club of Greater Atlanta’s “Raising Expectations” program helps to provide those enrichment opportunities to hundreds of local youth.
Through this program, inner-city youth participate in field-trips to local museums, theatres and sports venues, as well as, fun-filled workshops focusing on healthy lifestyle choices and character development activities. Performances at The Atlanta Ballet Company, The Atlanta Symphony, and The Center For Puppetry Arts were just a few of the exciting activities offered through The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Clubs’ Raising Expectations Program.
“These kids are tapping into their own artistic skills and attending performances and showcases that, due to financial constraints, they might never have had the opportunity to attend,” explains Andy Copassakki, Executive Director of The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Atlanta.
In 2009, Metro Atlanta men, women and children participated in 334 cultural and social enrichment activities through Salvation Army Programs. You can help The Salvation Army continue to provide these enrichment programs by supporting our Send a Child to Summer Camp Campaign.
