In recognition of National Volunteer Week, we would like to feature a company with one of the most recognized and admired brands in the world, you’ve seen their brown box trucks and iconic brown jump suits all over Atlanta. You guessed it… the largest package and delivery company in the world, UPS.
Since 1998, UPS employees have volunteered for The Salvation Army Metro Atlanta Area Command through hands-on, community based services that have made an everlasting difference. Their commitment of service to The Salvation Army is paramount.
During our 2010 Angel Tree program, UPS provided box trucks and volunteer drivers to help us gather corporate and organization donations throughout the Metro Atlanta Area. Offering this service to The Salvation Army during our busiest time of the year allowed us to keep transportation and staff costs to a minimum while utilizing UPS’s expertise in logistics.
Within just 4 business days, the UPS drivers delivered over 4,020 Angel Tree gift packages to our warehouse. 26 UPS employee volunteers played Santa’s helper throughout the week. This volunteer force donated 168 volunteer hours during our 2010 Christmas Season. Without the efficiency and support of UPS, our Angel Tree program would not have been able to distribute over 10,000 Christmas gifts to children all over Metro Atlanta.
Additionally, UPS volunteers attended our first Day of Caring, in partnership with United Way of Metro Atlanta. UPS volunteers came out in full force on March 11, 2011 to help prepare canned food items for our Financial Emergency Service offices. Along with other area business representatives, UPS volunteers helped us sort and pack over 15,000 lbs of food in just three short hours!
Over the course of the past 6 months, we can estimate that UPS has provided The Salvation Army of Metro Atlanta with labor and expenses worth over $4,441!
